Overview
VR Game Based on Ancient Chinese Poem
This project recreates a stage for the ritual poem “The Senior Arbiter of Fate,” written by Chinese poet Qu Yuan around 300 BCE. Historically, Qu Yuan’s poems are believed to be chanted by priests on stages, similar to actors in a theater. At the same time, the readers fall back to become part of the crowd. In this project, the spotlight will be switched onto the audience to play the apprentice of the Arbiter, who executes the fate of all mortals. The audience will experience an illusion of supernatural power along with a struggle in the humanistic part of themselves when making life choices.

Stage I Prototype in ShapesXR
In each stage, the player will follow the instructions provided by the Senior Arbiter of Fate to solve the Chinese character puzzle in creative ways (by rearranging the strokes in the 3D canvas). In the first stage Bang (or "Country" in Chinese), for example, the protagonist leaves the village to see the emperor at the court where he will be appointed as the minister. With different ways of arranging the brushstrokes, the avatar will have unique sequences of navigating various significant milestones in their life, thereby producing a special immersive experience each time.
