Problem
Travel is an essential component of our life that contributes to our physical and mental health. But many of us resonated with the pain of packing for traveling, which may cause stress, anxiety, or sleep deprivation. We feel like we either don’t have enough time, don’t know what to bring, or always forget about some items.
User Research
We distributed short surveys and conducted user interviews to identify user pain points, understand their reason behind packing stress, and discover patterns of stress-relieving for different types of people.
Findings
We received 28 survey responses and conducted 30-minutes phone interviews with 4 potential users.

Don’t know what to bring
Even experienced travelers struggle with packing due to uncertainty about what to bring. Organizing clothes for varying weather can be a particular challenge.

Don’t have enough time
When people are under a lot of pressure such as exams, they don’t have enough time to plan accordingly so that it is highly likely for them to forget some items.

Special attachments
Users may have sentimental items like plush toys or cherished clothes. A tracking system for such belongings would enhance the packing experience.

User-Centered Recommendation
Our AI recommendation system suggests travel essentials based on factors like weather, travel mode, trip length, and purpose. This system minimizes packing stress by simplifying decisions with yes-or-no questions.
Smart Packing
Our system tracks users' suitcase history, learns their preferences, and offers tailored recommendations. Users can personalize items with notes and descriptions, turning possessions into cherished travel companions.
Quick Start
User feedback from initial Lo-Fi wireframe usability testing taught us that stressed users desire a quick, easy-to-use product for efficient packing. We'll keep the onboarding process minimal to ensure a stress-relieving packing process.
Gamified Experience
We drew inspiration from card games like Stacklands. Card-style items offer interactive, gamified task completion, making packing a low-stress, game-like experience.
Packing Anxiety
Feedback highlighted users' anxiety about not packing enough. Throughout the design process, we prioritized the recommended list as our core product feature.
